Monarch Minute

August 2026

’Twas the day before school, and all through the town,
Our Monarchs were ready to head Munford-bound!
With backpacks and lunches and drop-off to do,
Here are a few last-minute reminders for you ....

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We are so excited to welcome our Monarchs back to school! As we get ready for the first day, here are a few important reminders to help arrival and dismissal go smoothly -

First Day of School

The first day is a little different! Families are welcome to walk their children to their classrooms on the first morning. Our halls will be busy, but staff members will be stationed throughout the lobby and hallways to help everyone find their way. Before you leave, please make sure both your child and their teacher know how your child will be getting home that afternoon.

And once you’ve said your goodbyes, please join us at the pavilion for our Boo Hoo (or Woo Hoo!) Breakfast!Ā

Morning Arrival

Students should arrive between 7:30–7:45 a.m. Breakfast is available to all students, free of charge, in the cafeteria or students can go to the Auditorium until the bell. The playground is not open during morning arrival. Once students arrive on school grounds, they should head directly inside through their designated entrance rather than playing on the playground. The intake bell rings at 7:45 a.m., and students will head to their classrooms. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are tardy and should enter through the main front doors and check in at the office.

🚶 Walkers & Bikers
Students should enter through the side lobby doors and report to breakfast or the auditorium. Beginning on the second day of school, families should say goodbye at the door rather than walking students to their classrooms. If your child needs a little extra help, our staff will be happy to support!

šŸš— Car Drop-Off
Please approach Commonwealth Avenue from the west on Grove Avenue and join the car line. Drop-off takes place directly in front of the pavilion. We recommend arriving between 7:30–7:45 a.m. - our morning car line moves pretty quickly!

🚌 School Buses
Buses typically arrive to school between 7:30–7:45 a.m. Students will enter through the Kindergarten hallway doors and report to breakfast or the auditorium before heading to class at the intake bell.

Afternoon Dismissal

🚶 Walkers & Bikers
Walkers and bikers are dismissed from their classrooms at 2:35 p.m. and exit through the side lobby doors. If you are meeting your child, please make sure they know to check with a staff member if they do not see you.

šŸš— Parent Pick-Up
Car riders are dismissed at 2:35 p.m. and report to the pavilion for pick-up. Please approach Commonwealth Avenue from the west on Grove Avenue and join the car line. Families should arrive between 2:25–2:45 p.m.

Helpful tip: Place a large sign with your child's name in your windshield to help us keep the line moving! Staff members will assist students as they get into their cars.

🚌 School Buses
Bus riders are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. Staff members will supervise the bus area and help students board their assigned buses. If a bus is significantly delayed, we will send families an update through ParentSquare.

Important for K–2 families: An adult must be present at the bus stop to receive students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. If an adult is not there, the driver will return the child to school and the student will need to be picked up at the school.

⭐ Aftercare and ASE
Students participating in the YMCA after-school program or an ASE activity will be dismissed from their classrooms at 2:45 p.m. and directed to their appropriate program.

Some after-school programs provide transportation directly from Munford (JCC, Grand Magnolia, Tuckaway, etc.). Students participating in these programs are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. with our bus riders. Staff members supervise students in the transportation area and help ensure they board the correct van or bus for their assigned after-school program.

ā° Early Dismissals
We understand that appointments and other circumstances may occasionally require students to be picked up before the end of the school day. When possible, please let your child’s teacher and the front office know in advance that your child will be leaving early.

To maximize instructional time, we do not call students to the office until their guardian has arrived and signed them out. Please keep this in mind when planning for appointments and allow a few extra minutes for your child to gather their belongings and come to the office.

All early dismissals must take place before 2:15 p.m. After 2:15, we begin our schoolwide dismissal procedures and are unable to accommodate early pick-ups.

Breakfast & Lunch

All students are welcome to enjoy school breakfast and lunch each day, free of charge! You can find our current cafeteria menu linked below. Be sure to take a peek, as there are a few changes to the menu schedule this year... including a very important update for our Munford students: student-favorite Pizza Day has moved from Fridays to Tuesdays!Ā

Guardians are also welcome to join their child for lunch on occasion. If you plan to visit, please bring a state-issued photo ID and check in at the main office before heading to the cafeteria. You can find our class lunch schedule on the image here to see when your child’s class eats.

Backpack Policy

As a reminder, RPS requires students to use clear backpacks for school. If your child did not receive a clear backpack at Open House or Kindergarten Signing Day, no worries- we have backpacks available at school to distribute to students! If your child’s RPS-issued backpack becomes damaged or needs to be replaced during the school year, please check with the main office before purchasing a new one. We may have a replacement available for your student.Ā
